Competitive Fortnite for beginners

By Colin McDonough Leave a Comment

Fortnite took the world by storm when it was released back in 2017. The game arguably revolutionized the battle royale genre thanks to its unique mechanics and features. Epic Games has constantly added more and more content to Fortnite which keeps players entertained and stops the game from feeling too repetitive. One of the many things that Epic has added to the game is competitive play.

Almost every popular multiplayer game in the world has a competitive mode. Fortnite received a mode for competitive play as well in 2019 after the demands of many players. This competitive mode, or Arena Mode as it is referred to in-game, features the same gameplay as Fortnite’s battle royale with the added twist of rankings. These rankings are determined by a player’s performance in Arena Mode.

Players will receive more and more hype points as they win games in Arena Mode. These hype points decide a player’s exact ranking. There are a total of 10 different ranks in the game. The lowest rank is Open I while the highest is Champion III. The quality of opponents significantly rises as a player progresses to the higher divisions. For example, players in Open I-III will be less skilled as compared to the ones in Contender I and above.

Players will also receive special rewards as they advance through these ranks. The ‘Open’ ranks have no real benefit as they don’t really provide any decent rewards. The ‘Contender’ and ‘Champion’ divisions on the other hand, are much better. Rising to the higher ranks provides players with access to tournaments. These tournaments feature some of the best Fortnite players in the world. Some of these online tournaments also provide real cash prizes.

Players in the ‘Champion’ divisions of Fortnite’s competitive mode are also provided with access to the Fortnite Champion Series. The Champion Series is a seasonal event that features the best Fortnite players from around the world. Champion rank players can also compete in Fortnite World Cup Online Qualifiers. In short, the higher divisions of Fortnite’s Arena Mode are a gateway for players to start their professional gaming career.

Any player can enjoy the intense fun of Fortnite’s Arena Mode; however, it takes a lot of skill and commitment to truly compete with the players in the highest ranks.
